USEF Rated Horse Shows
“A” Rated Horse Shows at Chagrin Valley Farms are the highest level of horse shows competition offered. Judges and officials must be licensed by the United States Equestrian Federation to officiate at these horse shows. In order to host competitions at this level, Chagrin Valley Farms meets the highest level of safety, quality, and compliance with USEF regulations and standards. The competition schedule spans 3 to 5 days and provides a wide range of horse showing opportunities.
These rated horse shows attract a more experienced and polished exhibitor. In addition to Ohio residents, attendance often includes professionals, juniors, and amateur riders from Canada and several surrounding states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Kentucky, and North Carolina. National and Zone 5 points, as well as, OPHA, OHJA, and Up and Over points may be awarded at these horse shows. Please see current prizelist for those designations.
When exhibitors attend these rated horse shows at Chagrin Valley Farms, they are welcomed by our congenial and knowledgeable staff. Stabling, warm up areas, and show rings are all located under the same roof. Complimentary bedding is provided. Hunter and jumper courses are built with a pleasing variety of obstacles. Particular attention is paid to course design and decoration.
Our facility features amenities such as a large and comfortable exhibitor lounge, indoor restrooms, and free WiFi. Competitors are treated to complimentary coffee and donuts each morning. Evening exhibitor parties may feature taco night, holiday themed treats, a wide variety of snacks, appetizers, beverages, and desserts. Emphasis is placed on providing a congenial, fun, and family-friendly atmosphere.
Hunter Schooling Shows at Chagrin Valley Farms are offered as another level of horse shows experience. Hunter rounds are judged on smooth style and jumping form. The Hopeful Hunter and Very Green Hunter divisions are geared toward horses who require lower fence heights. Junior and Adult divisions are offered to accommodate riders who are ready for fences at the 2’ through 3’ heights. Riders also have the opportunity to show in equitation classes on the flat and over fences. Suitable attire for hunter and equitation classes is recommended. Regulation equipment is expected. Fence construction includes flower boxes and gates.
Jumper Schooling Shows at Chagrin Valley Farms are designed to test the accuracy of the rider to pilot their horse over a course of 8 to 10 jumping obstacles. Four faults are accrued for each refusal or knock down. In addition, one time fault per second is charged for exceeding the time allowed. Suitable attire for jumper classes is recommended. Regulation equipment is expected. Fence construction includes striped rails, planks, and fences without ground lines.
These horse shows are often used in preparation for moving up to USEF rated horse shows. Many of our Hunter Jumper classes and divisions are recognized by OPHA and Up and Over. Please see current prizelist for those designations.
Academy Schooling Shows
Academy Schooling Shows at Chagrin Valley Farms are geared toward riders in a lesson program who are just getting started, and who are working on improving their basic skills to include experience in the show ring. Emphasis is placed on the suitability of the horse/rider combination to their chosen division. Every effort is made to keep the Academy classes and divisions of reasonable size in order to safely accomodate all entries. Safe, tidy, suitable attire is recommended for exhibitors at this level. Martingales are permitted in flat classes. Academy classes and divisions are recognized by OPHA and Up and Over. Please see current prizelist for those designations.
Dressage Schooling Shows
Equestrian Dressage Shows at Chagrin Valley Farms offer an opportunity for dressage riders of all levels to gain experience in the show ring setting. We offer regulation USDF and USEA dressage tests, (both small and large rings.) In addition, riders may designate a dressage test of their choice and must provide a copy for scoring. Suitable attire is expected. Chagrin Valley Farms Equestrian Dressage Show scores are eligible for NODA Year-end Awards.
Each of the Chagrin Valley Farms Horse Shows series conclude with a Championship Show. Champion and Reserve Champion award winners are recognized at this horse show and on our website.
